HAPPY 4th of July Weekend!! I can’t believe we’re already to the 4th! This year is flying by & I have a 9 month old already!! Seriously, time flies!! Any who, this week we’re making the famous steak sandwich!
I shared a video on my Instagram and everyone went crazy for these & I thought they had to become a Meals Made Easy recipe because they are just so dang easy!!! I paired them with some mashed potatoes but you know I’m a bagged salad girl at heart & it would make the perfect side for these.
THE STEAK! We’re using ribeye here! It is my favorite cut of meat, it’s so flavorful & nice & fatty. It works so well here but if you’d like to use something else that’s ok too! The point is we want to cut it (against the grain) into thin slices, season it generously & cook it quickly!
SOME TIPS. Before I cut the steak into strips I like to freeze it for a bit. This helps it stay nice in firm and allows for nicer cuts. Second, cook it in a HOT skillet because the pieces will cook quickly & get a nice crust on them. and third, cook them in batches so they can caramelize without steaming. The crusty bits are the best part.
THE ONIONS! Hear me out, my husband & son despise onion, but caramelized onions - they’re basically candy & you cannot skip them here! They add the most perfect balance to the sandwich that you just can’t replicate any other way. So I’m telling you, try it even if you hate onions & get back to me because I bet you’ll love it!
Time to get cooking! These should take you about 20 minutes. The longest part is actually going to be cooking the onions. Once we take those out cooking the steak, roasting the bread, assembling & melting it up is all there is left to do. Basically one pan & then the oven does the work! Let me know if you try these! We love them so much & they have become a staple around here!
